Description
The workshop will focus on interaction between modeling and monitoring. Major questions to answer are:
- What do modelers need from the monitoring community given the directions of new model developments and goals of various programs?
- What can the newest monitoring technologies offer that we have been missing for filling gaps in monitoring, research and advancing modeling efforts?
For example we will discuss such questions as:
- How can real-time blending of modeling and monitoring be achieved?
- How to provide synoptic 3-D picture of biogeochemical cycling of elements and physical forcing of continental shelf primary productivity?
- How to make the best use of new monitoring arrays?
- How to design adaptive monitoring and management while directing cutting edge technology in modeling and monitoring to work together?
Other issues to discuss: What are the trends in the future of monitoring? How would an AUV or a small team of AUVs compare with Dataflow or Scanfish for efficiency, effectiveness, durability and such? With the cost of fuel rising, are we likely to see more utility and application of unmanned monitoring vehicles?
